What is a photo collage?

Digital photo collages are similar to collages that you may have made as a kid, or helped another child make, gluing pictures, colored paper and other things to a poster board. Digital collages are created using photo editing or graphics software to manipulate photos so that they can be blended and pieced together, similar to a puzzle. These types of collages are a terrific way to showcase several photos at once in one work of art.

How do I get started?

Decide if your collage will have a theme or focus. For example, if you are doing a family collage you may want to have a recent larger sized photo in the center of the collage and then blend other photos around it. Once you decide, search through your photo albums or computer files to find the pictures that you want to include in your collage. Note: Remember that the collages come unframed, so consider framing charges when purchasing the collage. You may also want to consider a standard size collage, rather than a custom size, since custom frames can cost quite a bit more.

How do I get the photos to you?

You can send digital photos to us, scan the photos that you want to use and save them to a DVD or CD (.jpg, .jpeg, or .gif) to give to us, or give us the photographs for us to scan for you. If you choose to scan the photographs yourself, the scanning resolution should be 300 dpi for the best results, especially if a photo is going to be enlarged. Please click on the Photo button for more detailed information.

Do you do photo touch-ups or enhancements?

Yes. We can fix red eye, enhance the overall look of the photo (lighten or darken the photo), ‘erase’ blemishes or imperfections, repair minor damages, and possibly repair majorly damaged pictures. There is an extra change for more time consuming photo touch-ups, depending on what needs to be done. Please see the prices section for more information on photo touch-ups.

If I give you photographs, will I get them back?

Your photos will be returned to you once the photo project is completed.

Will I be able to view the collage before I pay for it?

Yes. You will be able to see the finished product before paying. You can either come by to see it, or we can email you a digital version of the collage. Keep in mind that the emailed file will be saved to a smaller sized file, so the quality won't be quite as crisp as the actual collage.

Can I make changes to the collage?

Yes, you can specify changes at the time you are sent the final proof. You get 1 revision at no additional charge, for example removing or adding pictures, etc.

Can I choose to get the digital file instead of ordering a print of the collage?

Yes. In this case you would pay the Collage Design fee plus $10 to get a digital file on CD.

What type of paper is used if I order a print from you?

Collages can be printed on photo paper or smooth fine art paper. The company we use for prints, uses Epson brand photo paper. Collage sizes 11X14 or larger are on a heavier Epson Premium Luster photo paper. For more information on this type of paper, see the prices page. The smooth fine art paper is a beautiful way to reproduce fine art or photographs. This fine art watercolor paper is used for gallery quality reproductions and photos and makes for a richer print.

How long does it take to get the finished product?

This depends on the size of the collage, whether or not we are scanning and/or touching up photos and what type of paper you choose. For just a digital file, generally you will have the collage file in 2 to 4 days, again, depending on the size of the collage. For a collage printed on photo paper, you should have the finished print in 3 to 6 days and for a collage printed on fine art paper, it can take 6 to 10 days. These are estimates, so it could take less time, or a longer time to get the finished product. The process that can take the longest sometimes is searching through all of your pictures to decide which ones to use.

If you scan my pictures, can I get a digital file of those?

Yes. If you purchase a digital file of the collage, I can put the pictures on that CD.
